Our dedicated teams ensure that students receive the guidance and resources they need to integrate into the mainstream lessons and school community.

The language of instruction is English in both the  Primary International and Secondary Department.

The language of instruction at  the Primary Dutch Bilingual Department,  is 70% Dutch and 30% English.

In addition, ISE offers French or Spanish in the secondary department as additional languages and we have an extensive Home Language Programme for all of our three departments.

Yes, we provide tailored support for students with identified and diagnosed learning needs through our dedicated Learning Support and Student Support teams. This includes a multidisciplinary team of Student Coaches, Counsellors, Coordinators, Learning Support Teachers, School Nurses, Teaching Assistants, and Year Tutors (in secondary).

Our team works collaboratively to guide students toward achieving their individual goals while also supporting teachers in meeting the diverse needs of students in the classroom. When necessary, we collaborate with external specialists to ensure students receive the most effective assistance for their development and success.

The maximum class size is 22 students in the Primary International, and 24 students in the Primary Dutch Bilingual and Secondary Departments.

By keeping groups to a smaller size the individual attention that can be given to each student is maximised. We maintain the right to (temporarily) deviate from these numbers.

The ISE has two primary departments provide high-quality education to students from age 4-11/12. These two departments aim to accommodate both international and local residents, depending on the length of their stay in the Netherlands and their future plans.

Primary International Department
Our Primary International Department provides education for temporary international residents and Dutch nationals with prior experience in international schooling (please review the admission policy on our OpenApply page) The curriculum is based on the core standards of the UK National Primary Curriculum for Literacy and Mathematics. Foundation subjects are integrated into theme-based units and taught using an inquiry-based learning approach to foster curiosity and critical thinking.

Primary Dutch Bilingual Department
The Primary Dutch Bilingual Department serves local residents (with Dutch or international backgrounds) as well as international residents planning a longer-term or permanent stay in the Netherlands. This department follows the Dutch national curriculum and incorporates theme-based learning to deliver an engaging and well-rounded educational experience. The Primary Dutch Bilingual is a bilingual primary school, teaching 30% in English and 70% in Dutch. The Primary Dutch Bilingual is located at our ISE Jan Luikenstraat Campus.

Please check our curriculum pages for more information.

The admission criteria requirements are very different. Please refer to the admission policy on our OpenApply page for the International Departments.

The ISE Secondary Department follows the renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, which fosters global citizenship, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning.

What is the IB Programme?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is a globally recognised curriculum that emphasises critical thinking, personal development, and preparation for higher education.
Students aged 11–16 follow the five-year IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), which builds a strong foundation in academics and personal skills. Students aged 16–18 continue with the two-year IB Diploma Programme (DP), renowned for its academic rigor and focus on holistic development.

You can find out more about the IB here and in the secondary school guide.

While exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis, students seeking admission to the ISE Secondary Department must meet the eligibility criteria outlined above. These criteria are determined by Dutch legislation and the school’s admissions policy.
